Smithfield Meat Market 1980
I went to the site office and asked if I could take some photos. They gave me a permit (those were the days!). So I returned at 6am on a cold January morning when it was still dark outside.
I had bought my first camera only a few months before, picking up some old lenses from a second hand shop somewhere. I was already processing my own films, in this case Tri-X and HP5 in ID-11 and Microphen.
44 years later, I have scanned the negatives on an Epson V700 flat-bed scanner at 3200dpi with grain reduction enabled. Dust and hairs were removed and the relatively soft images enhanced in Lightroom.
The market is now closed, being redeveloped for, among other things, the new home of the Museum of London.
